Intrigued by travel, nature, the outdoors, different cultures and the world of physics, Rob Nicholson discovered his calling while serving for the United States Navy. With an artful eye and camera in tow, Rob has traveled the world. Hong Kong, Singapore, Bahrain, Japan, Australia, Korea, Mexico, Canada, Italy, Vietnam and more than half of the United States have been subject to Rob’s journeys. Education and life experiences abound throughout his travels; however, the subjects visually captured on film have been most rewarding.

Documentation of Rob’s journeys can be found in his Fine Art Collection. From a stack of bamboo to dew captured on the petal of a flower, he is notorious for capturing the simplest beauty and making the ordinary, extraordinary.

Canon camera bodies

Canon EOS 1D Mark III Digital SLR x2- Amazing for low light photography with low noise, is weather sealed (perfect for those warm moist destination weddings in Jamaica) and has dual memory card slots for back up!  Canon’s flagship EOS-1D Mark III is the most advanced EOS Digital SLR ever produced. It has a new 10.1 megapixel CMOS sensor (APS-H size) with Canon’s EOS Integrated Cleaning System and a 3.0-inch LCD monitor with Canon’s Live View technology. The 1D Mark III has a redesigned 100% viewfinder, a new 45-point AF system, and can shoot up to 10 fps continuously with a maximum burst of 110 shots. Dual “DIGIC III” Image Processors work in tandem to speed up every process while refining image quality; a new, lighter body has improved weather sealing and shutter durability. Every facet of the EOS experience has been enhanced with the 1D Mark III. It’s the new standard.

Canon EOS 40D Digital SLR – Self-cleaning sensor, 10.1 MP and larger lcd display screen monitor.  Welcome to the next generation of digital SLR photography-the Canon EOS 40D. The EOS 40D combines Canon’s tremendous know-how in both the digital and photographic worlds, creating a camera that not only does everything one would expect of a traditional digital SLR, but one that incorporates staggering leaps forward in technological innovation. With new features like Canon’s EOS Integrated Cleaning System, Live View Function, a more powerful DIGIC III Image Processor, plus a 10.1-megapixel CMOS sensor, a 3.0-inch LCD monitor and more, the EOS 40D elevates digital photography to new heights, enhancing the shooting experience, and delivering images one could only expect from a Canon.

Canon EOS 30D Digital SLR x2- Great work horse camera for wedding photography!  Canon’s EOS 30D brings proven EOS technology to a new level, giving photographers an unbeatable photographic experience. The EOS 30D incorporates a host of new features with Canon’s highly acclaimed 8.2 megapixel CMOS sensor and DIGIC II Image Processor. The EOS 30D includes enhanced operational features such as a 2.5 inch LCD monitor, true spot metering, a durable new shutter mechanism and Canon’s Picture Style feature, all in a sturdy, magnesium-clad body. With all these new features the EOS 30D is truly perfection, refined.

Canon EOS Digital Rebel Xt – My first ever DSLR! I will always remember my first! (sniff sniff…I can’t let her go even though she is collection dust. Maybe I’ll give it to my kids one day.)

Canon EF Lenses

Canon EOS Telephoto zoom lens EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM – This lens is a beast! I don’t use it at every wedding but it doesn’t sit around collection dust either. When I’m not taking wedding pictures I love shooting landscapes and cityscapes. L-series super telephoto zoom lens equipped with an Image Stabilizer. The fluorite and Super UD-glass elements largely eliminate secondary spectrum. The floating system also ensures high picture quality at all focal lengths. The Image Stabilizer has two modes and it is compatible with Extenders 1.4x II and 2x II.

Canon EOS Telephoto zoom lens EF 70-200mm f/2.8L USM – This is one of my favorite Canon lenses. Give good reach and preforms well in low light church situations.  Incorporating Canon’s second generation Image Stabilization technology, this telephoto zoom responds in as little as 0.5 seconds, while providing up to three stops of correction for camera shake. Its AF system has been refined for better response time and tracking speed. And even the new 8-blade circular aperture offers a more pleasing out-of-focus image. Constructed to pro standards, this fast zoom is also highly resistant to dust and moisture, too.

Canon EOS Standard zoom lens EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM – Great all-purpose lens. Good range and beautiful color. Little slow for photographing weddings indoors.  Standard zoom lens with an Image Stabilizer and high zoom ratio. With the Image Stabilizer turned on, you can obtain sharp, natural-looking pictures in dim lighting without using flash or a tripod. Very handy for places where flash is prohibited. Uses ring-type USM for swift, silent autofocus and full-time manual focus. Closest focusing distance is 20 in. (50cm).

Canon EOS Macro Lens EF 100mm f/2.8 USM -Nice prime lens for wedding details.  Autofocus lens for macro photography up to life-size (1x) magnification. Inner focusing affords a long working distance of 5.9in. (149mm) at 1x. A 3-group floating system results in excellent delineation at all focusing distances. Ring USM for silent and high-speed AF, and full-time manual focusing also provided.

Canon EOS Standard & Medium Telephoto lens EF 50mm f/1.2 USM – By far the best lenses I have ever used! Fast, beautiful color, sharp, great for details and weather resistant!  The EF 50mm f/1.2L USM is a peerless new standard lens featuring an ultra-large aperture for a narrow depth of field and soft background blur so loved by photographers everywhere. The EF 50mm f/1.2L USM is suitable for any shooting situation; its lens coating and construction are optimized to minimize the ghosting and flare that frequently occurs when lenses are used with digital cameras. This high-performance, weather-resistant lens delivers all the superb image resolution and contrast you expect in a Canon L Series Lens.

Canon EOS Standard & Medium Telephoto lens EF 50mm f/1.4 USM – Great cheaper alternative to the Canon 50MM f/1.2!  Standard lens featuring superb quality and portability. Two high-refraction lens elements and new Gaussian optics eliminate astigmatism and suppress astigmatic difference. Crisp images with little flare are obtained even at the maximum aperture.

Canon EOS Standard & Medium Telephoto lens EF 85mm f/1.8 USM – A highly practical medium telephoto lens with superb delineation and portability. Images are sharp and clear at all apertures. Through computer simulations, the lens has been designed to give beautiful background blur. Since the front lens group does not rotate during focusing special filter effects are not affected.

Canon EOS Ultra-wide zoom EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM – This is my most used lens! Great range and low distortion at 16mm.  The EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM is a high performance, water-resistant, and ultra wide-angle Canon L-series lens. It has been specifically designed for improved edge-to-edge image quality that will meet the strict requirements of professional and high-end amateur photographers. It features 3 high-precision aspherical lens elements, each of a different type: ground, replica and GMo for even better image quality than the original EF 16-35mm f/2.8L USM. The circular aperture produces a beautiful and natural background blur when shooting at wider apertures. Other features include internal focusing, a ring type USM (Ultra Sonic Monitor), and new AF algorithms for fast and quiet autofocusing.

Canon EOS Wide Angle lens EF 24mm f/1.4L USM – Very fast and sharp!  Professional wide-angle lens with an ultra-large maximum aperture of f/1.4. This is the first EF lens to employ both a replicated Aspherical lens element to suppress distortion and spherical aberration, and a UD lens element to correct lateral chromatic aberration. Thanks to the floating construction, excellent corner-to-corner delineation is attained from 10 in. (25 cm) to infinity.

Flashes and accessories

Canon EOS Speedlite 580EX II x2 – Further development of Canon’s flagship Speedlite has led to the production of the 580 EX II. This is the premier Speedlite for all photographers, including professionals. Newly designed to match with the EOS-1D Mark III in terms of improved dust- and water-resistance, body strength, and the ability to control flash functions and settings from the camera menu (EOS-1D Mark III only). Other features include improved communication reliability through its direct contacts, and recycling time is both 20% shorter than the 580EX and is completely inaudible.

Canon EOS Speedlite 580EX x2

Canon EOS SLR Speedlite Transmitter ST-E2 – Amazing for creative flash work with ETTL!  Dedicated clip-on transmitter for E-TTL/E-TTL II wireless flash system.
